Reflective Response
Learning to write is a very difficult task. It takes lots of time, and many attempts, and can never truly be mastered. There are no absolute right or wrong answers when it comes to writing either, so it takes a dedicated, professional instructor to analyze the work of his students. As I progressed through this semester, both my instructor and I were able to reasonably conclude that my writing skills have increased. By completing specific assignments, I was able to meet the learning outcomes expected of me in this class.
It is my understanding that each specific assignment from this class was geared to further develop the writing skills of each student, which then manifested themselves in the semester research paper and final exam. Referencing the unit one essay when creating my own thesis statements gave me practice and guidance as to how to appropriately structure my future thesis statements, until I no longer need to reference that information to create focused and well-rounded thesis statements. This practice developed my critical thinking, reading, and writing skills. By participating in the online version of this class, I was able to hone my skills in an electronic environment. I drafted essays, reviewed, edited, and shared texts through the internet. I also learned how to use online databases to conduct research. By studying the process of creating a final draft on both the McGraw Hill website and through essays such as my unit 8 essay, I was able to improve the quality of my final drafts. I learned that writing happens in stages. By outlining the main points of the essay, finding effective quotes, creating a rough draft, and revising, a final draft will appear well thought out and organized.
Through various assignments and learning strategies, my professor was able to guide and supervise my progress throughout the semester. It is imperative to realize that these outcomes cannot be fully grasped by pupils when portrayed to them in shortened or modest ways. Assisting the students in this matter requires an adept professional who truly understands how people actually learn to write well.
